About

Hi, we’re Now+Future. We’re new. Sort of.

We are a small group of textile and fashion industry folk. We’ve dabbled across decades and sectors and we’re keen on real change in the Textile and Fashion Industry. Systems level change.

We don’t have all the answers, because frankly, nobody does. But we’re on the look out.

Then

In 1987, Our Common Future was published, including a defining statement on sustainable development describing it as, “[Meeting] the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

Chances are you’ve come across this. Maybe many times.

In no way was this the start of the conversation, but it was a definition that stuck. We like it too. It speaks to the relationship between our actions now, and future outcomes. The inextricable link between now+future. Plain and simple.

Now+Future

Now+Future is a free resource for individuals, organisations and groups. A growing collection of warts-and-all considerations.
A platform for the informed sharing of knowledge and opinion - but don’t worry, we believe in transparency too, so we’ll always be upfront about opinion vs. fact.

There’s a lot of information out there. We see a lot of amazing intentions, but not all of it makes sense. Let’s face it, not all of it is credible. We want to help cut through the noise.

We want to help people understand the impact of this industry. But beyond the doom and gloom, we want to find and share ways to address the issues, and drive the conversation with a focus on solutions.

This is us.

Kirri-Mae.

Kirri-Mae Sampson is driven by the potential for education and collaboration to shift industry towards more responsible practices and more sustainable outcomes. With experience in the areas of textile waste, manufacturing, retail and education, she is motivated by the growing mainstream attention on sustainable development for TCF, and eager to see that momentum result in action.

Dave.

Dave Giles-Kaye is keen to promote open and honest discussion about sustainability in textiles and fashion. Having worked in the industry for over 25 years, Dave is aware of how slowly things are changing and wants Now+Future to be a place for discussion and education about current initiatives, and dreams to build a better common future.

Aleasha.

Aleasha McCallion sees the collective capability across a range of expertise as critical to tackling the sustainability challenges within the textile sector. She is passionate about the use phase of textiles and fashion and is currently undertaking research investigating the transitions within the Textile, Clothing and Footwear (TCF) industry in Australia to a circular economy.

These are our friends.
